About the West Virginia Society

The West Virginia Society of the Sons of the American Revolution honors patriot ancestors through public service, historical preservation, patriotic education, and fellowship. Since 1890, our members have carried that mission into communities throughout the Mountain State.

Our Mission

The Sons of the American Revolution honors our Revolutionary War patriot ancestors by promoting patriotism, serving our communities, and educating and inspiring future generations about the founding principles of our Country.

Our History

Organized in 1890, WVSSAR has served the Mountain State through patriotic observances, historic preservation, lineage research, education, veteran recognition, and public service. Today, local chapters carry that work into communities across West Virginia.

Leadership and Chapters

State officers coordinate WVSSAR programs, support chapter leadership, and represent the Society throughout West Virginia. Chapter officers and registrars help prospective members document their lineage and take part in service close to home.
